Firstly, what started the rush on Wirefree Bras?
#MeToo
Demand for the wirefree bra really kicked off as the #MeToo movement took hold in 2017 and coincided with a backlash against brands like Victoria's Secret for their hyper-sexualised shows and models (largely conceived of by men) that didn't represent the different sizes, shapes and colours of the female customers they relied on.
Covid 19
This went on steroids during global lockdowns! Who wants to wear underwires during WFH?! Online searches for wirefree bras have increased 37% in the US and 25% in Australia in just the last 6 months so the obsession shows no signs of abating.
We've just had enough of the wire!
Our own Omnipoll research way back in 2015 told us that 74% of women would prefer to wear a wirefree bra if it offered the same support. Challenge accepted!
The Very Good Bra - Wirefree and Sustainable
From launch, the intent with The Very Good Bra was not only to make the perfect wirefree bra, but to combine that with clean-as-a-whistle materials, to create world first, botanically circular bras that were safe to worm and compost.
We pioneered the multi-size wirefree bra long before they were popular of course. I've been joking this year as we win awards and recognition, that I am suddenly in the right place at the right time, instead of just in the right place!

It's been a long haul, but now with the increased interest from the US, despite the difficult economic conditions, we continue to grow and in 2024 so far, US sales are double those of Australia. Women everywhere are searching for wirefree, and particularly cotton bras.
How many styles do we make?
It's almost our 6th birthday, but we still make only 3 wirefree bra styles, plus our new nursing bra. The reason for this is that as a self-funded, still-small, still kind-of start-up, we do like to stick with the styles that work best for our customers, and produce repeatable bra miracles of those in different colours and materials.
How many sizes do we make?
A key frustration for me personally, that led me to founding this brand, is that wirefree bras very rarely came in size ranges to match those of conventional, wired bras. Who on earth is a Small/Medium/Large?? We have increased our size range since launch, from 22 to 34, 30/8 to 38/16 bands and A-G cups in some ranges. Don't forget to measure and consult our size guide before a first time buy.
Why don't we increase our size range?
We have to make at least 12 bras in each size, covering the 34 sizes we make, and ensuring we have plenty in the sizes that sell best. It's a capital intensive business. We don't make all 34 sizes in all styles as there are some sizes we sell a lot less of, but there's always enough so you can find something in your size.
Why don't we make larger bras?
We can't get our bras to work much beyond 38/16E, our biggest size, until someone invents a plant-based replacement for spandex. We use the natural elasticity of the fabric knit for support in both our cotton bras and tencel bras, but beyond a certain weight and size the fabric has less ability to recover it's shape. One day!
The Evolution of our Designs
As we've learnt more and had more feedback, we've elevated the support capabilities of our wirefree bras, making them as comparable as possible to traditional wired bras in terms of lift and support for as many sizes as we can.
Having had only one style for 2 years, and just 2 for 4 years, in the last 12 months we've added 2 more, huge for us!
Our second style, the V for Victory Bra improved support and separation particularly in larger cups.
What's in the pipeline?
We've more cotton bras in the pipeline, and we are working on incorporating organic cotton lace into a new style of wirefree bra, but we won't rush it. Times are tough out there, we respect that and we won't over produce. We also know so many of you want padding, and finding a natural, compostable padding remains a key focus.

The original VERY GOOD BRA - Black Tencel, and Vintage Peach
This baby was our launch model in 2018 and our only style until 2020. Here's the skinny on it's features:
Body Fabric
This wirefree bra style is made in either super soft 100% Lenzing Tencel or Organic Cotton. The natural knit of the fabric creates stretch.
Cups
Cups have a full seam across the cup from the band to the strap. The lower cup has an additional woven organic cotton liner to ensure it keeps it's shape and offers support. This means that the cup has either 2 or 3 layers of fabric, but it doesn't have padding, and doesn't offer full nipple coverage.
Band
These are longline bras with a woven organic cotton liner in the front band to ensure it anchors and doesn't stretch out. Contrary to popular belief, it is the band and straps that provide most support in a bra.
SIZING TIP - The organic cotton woven liner will make the bra a firmer fit, so if you are on the cusp of band sizes, maybe size up one to be more comfortable.
Hooks and Eyes
Each bra has a 3 row hook and eye piece custom made in 100% organic cotton
Straps
These bras have our original 13mm organic cotton and natural rubber straps, with OekoTex certified metals
Who does this bra best suit?
This bra has traditionally suited everyone! Fans of a more seamless look and those with larger cup sizes have migrated across to some of our other styles as we've launched them, but these bras remain our best sellers and staunch favourites, each with over 80 five star reviews.
V FOR VICTORY BRAS - Sage, Grey Marle, Poppy, Indigo, Latte and Liberty print organic cotton bras
This style was our second model, launched 2020 to offer greater separation in the larger sizes. Below is the lowdown on all this bra's features:
Body Fabric
These cotton bras bras are made from 100% Organic cotton. We use the natural knit of the organic cotton fabric to create stretch.
Cups
Cups have a dart from the band to the centre of the cup. They also have a small front V wire between the cups to ensure separation and good support. The cups have no under cup channeling meaning a smoother finish at the sides and the ultimate comfort. Cups have 2 layers of fabric, but no padding so they don't offer full nipple coverage.
SIZING TIP - As this bra has no under cup channeling, it can hold more breast tissue, so if you're on the cusp of cup sizes, size down one.
Band
These are longline bras with a woven, organic cotton liner in the front band to ensure it anchors and doesn't stretch out. Contrary to popular belief, it is the band and straps that provide most support in a bra.

Who does this bra best suit?
These cotton bras has been universally loved since launch. Fans of a more seamless look and those with larger cup sizes who need support in particular prefer them, however, they are also popular in the smaller sizes where the V wire means they add some bulk to a bra rather than sitting flat against the body.
STRETCH V BRA
This super soft style was launched 2023 in response to customers who would prefer a narrower band and a stretch one, to feel less firm around the body. We are making these cotton bras in a narrower size range, from 32/10A-E, 34/12A-DD, 36/14A -D and 38/16A-C, it's closer to a bralette for us, but still comes in 18 proper bra sizes. Below is the lowdown on all this bra's features:
Body Fabric
These comfortable bras are made from unbleached and un-dyed organic cotton. As such it's also very low environmental impact. We use the natural knit of the organic cotton fabric to create stretch.
Cups
Cups have a dart from the band to the centre of the cup. They also have a small front V wire between the cups to ensure separation and good support. The cups have no under cup channeling meaning a smoother, more comfortable finish at the sides. Cups have 2 layers of fabric, but no padding so they don't offer full nipple coverage.
SIZING TIP - As this wirefree bra has no under cup channeling, it can hold more breast tissue, so if you're on the cusp of cup sizes, size down one. Some customers with less full cups also prefer a size down in cup so that they fill out the front dart better.
Band
The new Stretch V Bra has a 20mm elastic band made from natural rubber and organic cotton, our first to do so, super soft on the body and comfortable.
SIZING TIP - The elasticated band will make the bra feel looser, particularly to existing customers, so if you are on the cusp of band sizes, maybe size down one.
Hooks and Eyes
Each bra has a either a 2 or 3 row hook and eye piece custom made in 100% organic cotton. The narrower pieces correspond to the smaller bras with narrower straps below. Smaller sizes also have a slightly smaller V wire.
Straps
These bras have 2 strap widths according to bra sizes, made from a new un-bleached and un-dyed organic cotton elastic designed especially for our bras. The below sizes will have our 11mm wide straps:

Who does this bra best suit?
This wirefree bra has many fans amongst new and existing customers. It offers a more seamless look with no under cup channeling, and the soft stretch elastic band provides flexibility and comfort for an everyday look.
SIZING TIP -For less full breasts, size down a cup to ensure you fill it.
NURSING BRA
Our first nursing bra and a world-first - 100% plastic free, unbleached and un-dyed organic cotton nursing bra to meet the needs of the 'conscious' maternity market. Fully funded on Kickstarter in April 2023 and now in stock. We made this bra in response to alarming reports of BPA in synthetic bras, and also because maternity is a high-waste sector, with most of these bras ending up in landfill.
Body Fabric
The bra is made from 100% organic cotton, unbleached and un-dyed.
Cups
These cups have a dart from the band to the centre of the cup. The cups have no under cup channeling meaning a smoother finish at the sides. Cups have 2 layers of fabric, but no padding so they don't offer full nipple coverage. The bra is a simple pull-down style with no clips.
Band
The Nursing Bra uses a 20mm elastic organic cotton and natural rubber band. This unique maternity bra is highly adjustable, with 6 loops each side enabling it to expand or contract by 6cm each side. It has no hooks and eyes and fastens at each side using a Swan hook.
Straps
These bras use a 20mm tree rubber and organic cotton elastic straps made from a new un-bleached and un-dyed elastic designed especially for our bras.
Who does this bra best suit?
Well, apart from the obvious nursing mums, this maternity bra also works as a wirefree bra in a front-fastening, cross-over style for anyone! The Skin-Friendly Choice: Understanding our Materials
Fabric-wise, our organic cotton and tencel bras are very well suited for those with sensitive skin. An organic cotton wirefree bras is soft and breathable. Tencel is regularly used for post-surgical garments because of its anti-bacterial properties. Bands
To find the band size, wear as thin a bra as you have and measure the underbust snugly without clothes, ensuring the tape remains parallel to the ground. For the correct cup size, stand upright and measure the overbust at its fullest point.
Cups
Cup sizes are relative to band sizes, and it’s important to know both for an accurate fit. Consult our size guide with your measurements to match your underbust and overbust to the appropriate wirefree bra size. How to Care for Your Very Good Bra
The right care can prolong the lifespan of your organic cotton or tencel wirefree bra and preserve its shape. Follow these steps:

Hand or machine wash, no hotter than 30°C.

Use a mild detergent suitable for delicate items, no fabric softeners, and please, no home-made wash detergents as they are just too harsh for our elastic.

Absolutely No tumble drying!

Always air dry the bras by hanging them over the line via the centre point, away from direct sunlight.
