Proud to be a Certified B Corps
Becoming a certified B Corps in 2022 is a welcome validation of the sustainable practices upon which this business was built and which are at our very core. It means an enormous amount to us, but we understand it may not be as well known to our customers, so below are some insights.
What is the mission of the B Corps community?
Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are part of an initiative from B Lab, a GLOBAL non-profit that serves a global movement of people to whom purpose is as important as profit, and growth doesn't come at the expense of someone or something else. B Corps are a community of over 3000 businesses in 71 countries focussed on delivering positive impacts for their employees, economies, communities, and the environment.
With our certification, we have joined a cohort of over 3000 businesses in 71 countries focussing on business as a force for good and including global giants Patagonia and Allbirds as well as local heroes Citizen Wolf, Arnsdorf and Outland Denim here in Australia.
Why does this matter to you?
Fast becoming a global signpost for leadership in environmental and social impact, that little encircled 'B' is a way for customers to instantly recognise that the organisations they buy from are working according to an entirely new way of doing business. B Corps Certification helps customers select organisations that align with their values. This stringent accreditation means they can trust that we meet the highest standards for positive social and environmental impact.
In an industry where green-washing is rife, anyone can use the word 'organic' or 'sustainable' in their marketing, but as a B Corps you need to be able to quantify and substantiate everything you do. Not for the faint hearted, it involves answering over 200 questions in depth, and providing evidence to back up your claims.
To achieve certification, companies have to achieve a score of over 80 points and we were delighted to score over 100 points, coming in at 100.6 as below!
What is the certification process?
Certified B Corporations are required to:
- Consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders.
- Agree to be transparent on five impact areas: governance, workers, customers, communities, and the environment.
- Achieve a minimum verified score of 80 on the B Impact Assessment.
- Re-certify every three years ensuring they satisfy the ever-changing standards and expectations of the certification each time.
- Complete a comprehensive questionnaire of over 200 questions across the above categories, including substantiating evidence, followed up with an interview and reviews by B Corp™, each with stringent guidelines.
Where to from here?
B Corps certification helps businesses measure their impact, and stay on a track of continuous improvement. Our re-registration every 3 years ensures we will continue to strive to create an inclusive and sustainable economy where purpose-driven companies create benefits for all, not just for shareholders.
